New Board Members

We are excited to announce new AIGA Tallahassee Board Members for the Directors of Communication, Membership, Education, and Outreach.

John Lhotka, Communication Director

Communication Director – John Lhotka

From print lab management to art direction, John Lhotka has done a bit of everything in the design world. He enjoys painting pictures through his copy-writing and informing others through his visuals. Outside of the usual design skills (logos, illustrations, layout, etc.), he excels at organization and understanding people. He is still trying to find what he wants both in a job and in life.

As Communications Director, John will handle all chapter communications including newsletter, social media, website and Slack updates. He has been assisting Design Week Tallahassee as their Social Media Manager since the event extended to four months and went virtual back in August. John takes over the Communications Director role from chapter co-founder, Brittany Gress.

Hope Lavender, Education Director

Education Director – Hope Lavender

With 6 years of experience, Hope loves the art of storytelling through branding, graphic design and front-end web development. When she is not designing, you will find her enjoying time with her husband by serving God, rock climbing, or traveling. Hope has worked as both a freelance and in-house designer serving individuals, multiple organizations, startup companies and local businesses. Her client experience includes Florida State University, The Naumann Real Estate Group, and non-profit organizations both locally and nationally.

As Education Director, Hope will coordinate student centered programs such as portfolio reviews, studio tours, internship opportunities and other activities to strengthen our connection with local student chapters and the greater college community.

Rachel Cameron, Outgoing Membership Director

Membership Director – Rachel Cameron

Rachel Cameron has a passion for the arts and has dedicated over 12 years to studying, teaching, and creating. She moved to Tallahassee in 2012 after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelors in Studio Arts. Rachel then graduated from Florida State University with a masters in Art Education in 2015 and taught for 3 years. Now working in graphic design for the last two years, she is looking forward to serving on the board for AIGA Tallahassee.

Rachel is taking over as Membership Director from outgoing Director Callie Watson, who is moving to Charlotte, North Carolina.

Jeremy Spinks, Outreach Co-Director

Outreach Co-Director – Jeremy Spinks

Jeremy is a typographer by training, but spent so long in web design that he consequently became a jack of all trades. Mastering none of them for over 20 years, he is equally at home worrying about kerning or writing subroutines in php.

With his co-director, Eric Thomas, Jeremy will coordinate outreach programs to the community such as sponsorship and collaborative activities.

Note of Thanks

We would like to thank Brittany Gress and Callie Watson for their time of service as Communication Director and Membership Director, respectively, as they transition out. Both have made an impact on our community. We wish Callie Watson all the best on her next adventures in Charlotte. We are thankful she is still able to support us, albeit virtually from afar. Brittany Gress will continue to be a major figure in the Tallahassee design  area, even after stepping down. Brittany and Callie remain major organizers of Design Week Tallahassee 2020.
